Back in the day magazine 1/4 mile tests

This is a pretty cool site that posts all the 1/4 mile times from multiple magazines from back in the day.

Just think what those factory cars would have run on todays tires.

One of my favorite articles was Hot Rods "13 second grocery getter" which was a 1969 396/375hp Nova that ran 13.87.

That's a great compilation.I've still got some of those old magazines today.
What's interesting is many of those cars are the same exact cars, tested by different drivers in different places around the country, but with different results as the MFRs. just sent the same pre-selected car to the magazines for testing.

I would agree...have that magazine! That car had smog, 3.55's, skinny tires, factory exhaust...didn't take much work to get that into the 12's especially with the TH400 doing all the work!!

Re: Back in the day magazine 1/4 mile tests

----At 12.80 the 66 425 horse Corvette with the traveling gears is a serious bad boy. My 66 425 that I bought new with 3.70s (not 3,36s) and only welded on dumps would ET in the low 13.00s on the original goldlines. I could never get it to hook at the young age of 20! Had slicks on only once and they were to tall (went thru the traps as I was hitting 4th), but still pulled it down 2 tenths (my memory says 12.94). I got scared that I would either twist off a halfshaft or seriously damage something else so quit the slicks while I was ahead.......Bill S
