I stopped over a friend's house and he had this on the bench. They started life as small outboard motors which Hurst used to create the power pack. Kinda neat, but any idea what something like this could be worth?

I don't know what it's worth, but the concept has saved many lives. We have TNTs on our truck, and if you have people who know how to work together, you can get a lot of metal off in a short time.

Have no idea other than what a 'Serious HURST GoCart' you could have !
Even a genuine HURST generator in the pits you can 'shift' into action !

That's a Helluva display item for a Race Display or DON GARLIT's
Museum of Drag Racing ....hint, hint,.. He buys stuff like that...

Thats argueably the best item to come out of Hurst. They were the pioneers in rescue equipment and help save countless lives. You can check out some highlight footage of these in old Emergancy reruns. I love bending/ ripping metal!

The Hurst Rescue stuff was certainly innovative and a game changer for emergency responders. Hope I never need to have ot used on my stuff!

I agree it would look cool in the garage or display- which is why i was wondering what it might be worth.

what its worth is conjecture....open to many scenarios but realistically only a few buyers, .....a donation item ?

If I was further along in a race display I would say $200-$300. . I don't know if I'd spend $500.. but when we buy on emotions $$$$ changes hands....
Is it worth alot more to some one other than a curator or a Big Player with a 'Nice Toy Box' ? I guess ask them for a check....

Its ironic George Hurst & associated companies devised this for saving lives and the man took his own life when he couldn't save himself from his own company. RIP GH

That's an old 2 stroke unit. That thing would run upside down but was sometimes hard to start in the cold. The pump would cause the motor to surge and nothing else sounded like it. The spreaders, "Jaws of Life", used with it weighed about 70 lbs and were used with and with out the chains to rip, gouge and tear. Other tools became available and it's amazing what's used now.

I cut my teeth on one of those units in my early days, after being inspired by Roy & Johnny of course.
It sounded like a buzzsaw with the surge of a blown alcohol car, and jeez they were heavy.
They titled the way for the tool as Jaws, just as Kleenex or Coke titled the way for their followers and copiers down the road,
though the correct title for them now are cutters and spreaders.
We also progressed to something else, along with "Port a power" hydraulic units, and eventually the TNT tool as well in my 23 years.
There was nothing more fun than cutting up a donor car for a demonstration, but they served their purpose well cutting many of fool
and poor soul out of mangled wrecks as well. Paul, I would have to say they are like a collectible car.
They are worth what the right person is willing to pay. But would have to agree they are a fine museum piece of history.
Probably a very rare find in this day, especially as a complete set ( if you have the spreaders/Jaws with it).
