1968 Impala SS

While at he MCACN in this past Nov. a gentleman that has owned my old Impala SS for the last 27 years has offered me an op. to buy the car back. The car is still numbers matching-396,4-speed,buckets and council, fast back, factory red, white buckets, needs full restoration.I bought it when I was in the army-1980,AZ car.Dated my wife in it too.It looks ok from 20 feet, interior is mill dewy, few missing parts but I will try to get it.We are going to talk after the holidays.I just dont know what to pay for it.

Looks like a basket case to me. Rougher than 3 days in jail.

Like I said,Its a 20 footer, dont let the pics fool you,It was one bad SS when I owned it.Since, I understand it spun a bearing.it was a solid lifter car.396 -30 over ,heads shaved 24 thousand, trw 10.5 to 1 pistons, holly 700 duel pumper carb(still on motor)etc. At the time,I thought it was about 425-450 hp at crank.I had also installed 411 rear gears which are still in it.I remember putting those rims on the car-17.50 into each one.lol First I found the rims, then scrounged for trim rings and center caps.

----For the longest time I felt that 68s were just too big (that coming from a guy who likes big iron) but I have seen the light. This 68 is cool. By your description a value of maybe $13,000 to $15000?

If the body is solid and it just needs cosmetics, I would say $8 - $10K. Even then, you start doing much in the way of restoration and you'll be upside down faster than you can say "upside down". If it was an SS427, that'd be a whole different story.

olredalert-thanks I know the "Big Impalas" are gaining strength. When I owned this car back in the 80's I wanted to race it.Now I would just restore and drive it.Wellllll

----Part of my guess should have said "if you have to". And maybe a bit of over payment due to your past ownership as well.....Bill S
