Correct Tach for a COPO and L89 Camaro
Is an 8000 RPM 6000 redline correct for a COPO or L89 or should it be a 7000 RPM 6000 redline tach?
I thought an 8000 RPM/6000 redline was Z28 only. Thanks |

8k z only...7k used on both

Re: Correct Tach for a COPO and L89 Camaro
Chuck is correct, but does anyone know why they changed from 6/7 to 6/8 on the Z, but left the COPO and L78/L89 at 6/7?

Because 302s can handle rpm better than Rats? (Stock, that is.)

Re: Correct Tach for a COPO and L89 Camaro
They both have the same redline.....except late Z's, which I think were 6500/8000. So, if that was a serious answer, I don't get it.

"So, if that was a serious answer, I don't get it" I think Bill was being serious ,I assume they realized that the Z did handle higher rpms better, and moved the Z to 8000 max, then later decided it made more sense to move the redline up,not just the upper limit of the tach. After all, the redline isnt there so you can feel good about only being half way in it.

In the Z/28, what month did they start changing the tachometer to the higher RPM?

05A is 6/8 Matt. I think it's like September for the 6500 redline.

NO TACH in the L89 yellow car. Delivered that way from Norwood 12/16/68. Speedo and fuel gauge.
