Thanks for the enlightenment Steve. Thats a lot of cabbage. I could come up with at least 1/2 dozen vehicles or that I would consider all together for maybe $1M, if I had $1M to 2M large laying around and needing to be spent on the hobby. The seller is trying to cash in on the current &quot;Banditmania&quot; that occurred when Burt Reynolds sold his 1977 Trans Am Special Edition at auction for $450K (estimates were around $50K-$80K). What sent this car over the top was that it was Burt's personal car. It wasn't used in the movie &quot;Smokey And The Bandit&quot;, but the allure was that Burt kept the car all these years, and he (and the car) have become a part of 1970's pop culture. If it wasn't for the &quot;star&quot; aspect, it was a $15,000 Trans Am with the wrong hood bird.

Pontiac cashed in on the &quot;Bandit&quot; theme when the 1980 movie sequel &quot;Smokey And The Bandit II&quot; came out, but these black/gold cars were called &quot;Special Edition&quot; cars (there was also a limited run of gold Special Edition cars in 1978). Because of the popularity of the original movie, the general public called these cars &quot;Bandits&quot;, but Pontiac didn't use that name in any advertising until 1981, and by then Trans Am sales had sunk to less than 1/3 of what they were in 1979.

I don't believe butts car actually sold in the end for that kind of money an if you check the history he didn't have that car from the 70's. I Believe that car was acquired in the late 80's or 90's. It was really rough too. Something fishy went on with that auction. This car we're talking about can be had for around 150 I'm told.

A lot of people go nuts over the 76-81 Special Edition Trans Ams, especially the 77 version, because of the &quot;Smokey And The Bandit&quot; movie. The Special Edition cars typically go for 50% more than regular Trans Ams.

But honestly, if that $450K 1977 Trans Am that Burt Reynolds car didn't have celebrity status, it was a $10K car. Someone wanted the title with Burt's name on it. Love it or hate it, &quot;Smokey And The Bandit&quot; was one of the most iconic car movies of the 1970's. It made the 1977 Trans Am famous, especially the Special Edition version, and Pontiac rode a huge wave of popularity as Trans Ams sales grew at a healthy pace over the next couple years.

Pontiac didn't use the term &quot;Bandit&quot; anywhere until 1981, and by this time Trans Am sales were sagging. &quot;Smokey And The Bandit II&quot; was released in 1980.
