Trailer vibration..
 

Perhaps some of you towing gurus can answer this one..

We have a Triton snowmobile trailer, holds two sleds and has a clam shell top. It sits a lot during the off season and acts as a garage for the sleds. Last year I noticed a vibration when I would first hit the road with the trailer behind my Tahoe...the vibration was very obvious...but a after 5 miles or so would go away [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif[/img]

I thought the tires had developed flat spots from sitting...so this year I put on two new tires and on the first trip north....same thing happens! [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/frown.gif[/img]

I hooked up the trailer again yesterday to move it north for the summer...same thing again. The vibration is very noticeable...but always goes away after some driving.

So, I'm looking for ideas/suggestions/comments...not sure where to look. I grease the bearings periodically...but, I haven't taken the hubs apart to inspect.

The noise and vibration concern me...any help would be appreciated.

If you have bias ply tires it is indeed a flatspot. One of my trucks sits over the weekend and on Monday morning I have a vibration from the front tires for about 3-4 minutes and then it goes away for the rest of the day.

----I have two aluminum boat trailers with 16 inch bias-plys and they both want to shake the fenders right off until the tires return to round again. In my case the shaking is magnified by the fact that the trailers are built to be somewhat flexible. Putting new bias-plys on generally wont cure the problem.......Bill S

Jack up the trailer and set on jack stands, etc. that should cure the issue ... don't let the tires set on the ground bearing weight for any extended period of time ... TAZ

Just in case someone reads this as a smart a-$-$ answer -- let me clarify ... set it on jack stands will stored ... TAZ

Tom,
I have a triple axle boat trailer w/ 10 ply radial tires, after it sits a few weeks it will do same thing for a few miles, not saying you don't have something else going on but I believe if you had a bad tire it would keep shaking.
