409 header ID
I've seen that there is a healthy knowledge base of header history here. Mostly SB & BB but maybe someone has an old catalog that can help me identify these 409 headers I have.
Here are two sets. The ones on the right are straight back for competition only. The ones on the left have angled outlets to adapt to a factory exhaust system. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...eaders_003.jpg This is the number on the flange of the RH set. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...eaders_005.jpg This is a close-up of the flange on the left set. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...eaders_006.jpg Here is another set hanging above so the photo is not as good as desirable. This set is also angled for a stock exhaust mating. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...eaders_004.jpg I "think" the right set in the first photo might be Hookers, but I'm not sure. Any identification help would be appreciated. Thanks Verne |
Re: 409 header ID
Looks to me like they are Kustom Headers #1131

Re: 409 header ID
Hooker Headers , early ones Up Into The Mid To Late 70's Had A Unique Stamping all the way around the 360° circumference of the Collector in a HEART. ..insignia with HOOKER HEADERS stamp in unison.
Some had a numerical stamp on the flange. |
Re: 409 header ID
I NEVER would have thought of KUSTOM!

Re: 409 header ID
My uncle put Kustom headers on his Nova back in 1974

Re: 409 header ID
Any ideas on the left set? Unique with the #2 routed upward and the flanges with the holes in them. Hoping someone might recognize that style from an old catalog.

Re: 409 header ID
Verne,
As we discussed earlier, Nova Boy confirmed the KUSTOMS. As far as finding anything on the 2nd. Set. . . I can't confirm with my materials.. It looks as if they are a higher end set of Speed Shop availability type/style...... Such as Hedman,Cyclone, Appliance, etc.etc as.per the collector flange for Street hook ups. Regardless of the Brand, they appear of Equal length tuned tubes and a Good, Very Good set in Design and Condition (Isn't that the most important part of them) Thanks for asking for assistance. Tom |

Re: 409 header ID
Mark,
Do your headers have Hooker with the Heart stamped 360° around the Collectors ? The earlier ones seemed to have this along with a application/ part # stamped on the head flange. Later, in the 80's they went to the tack welded on plate to the drivers side primary tube. |
Re: 409 header ID
Thanks Mark. I think you're right. I have another lead that says Hooker. At least I know they're quality headers.
Now, if I can find out what these are, I'll have it all wrapped up. Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...eaders_004.jpg |
