Lest We Forget...

I'm slipping...just realized yesterday was June 6th.
We should never forget the sacrifices the "greatest generation" made on the beaches of Normandy 71 years ago!

Please take time to remember the price they paid for our freedom and for the freedom of so many others.

The story about Maj. Pluskat is portrayed exactly that way in the film "The Longest Day". I have seen that film many times...there are dozens of well known movie stars in the cast. If it had not been for Hitler's absolute control of the reserve Panzer tanks, the Normandy landings might have turned out differently. He slept thru the landings and they were all afraid to wake him up to get permission to release the tanks.

The references to winning a war certainly resonate with me when I look at our current challenges...those who would do us harm have no expectations of losing...perhaps we need to follow their lead.

How Ike wanted to be remembered. He said all would remember him as a President of the United States but few would remember him as a great General of WWII. For this reason, he wanted to be buried in a simple Army casket and wearing his uniform.
