Don Yenko Championship Trophy
I was lucky enough to recently acquire a personal trophy of Don's dated 1968 SCCA Steel Cities Region. Thought I'd post this up and see if there might be any interest in it on this forum. I'm curious if any Yenko collectors out there have anything similar in their collections! This came from his estate along with some personal effects of another local racer named Ed Lowther...

That needs to be in Joe Barr's collection! He's a member here.

Truth be told, I'm a Volkswagen guy, so I'd be willing to entertain offers if a Yenko collector is interested in it.

I have 15 to 20 Race Trophies of Dons thru out his racing career, along with many personal items.

</div></div> Ed Lowther was quite an accomplished SCCA A-Production (Ap) 427 Cobra racer from 1966-67. Driving (and at the time owning) Competition Cobra #CSX3009 in both those seasons he was SCCA Ap NE Division champ, which allowed him to enter the yearend American Road Race of Champions (ARRC) national championship race finales both years. In 1966 at the ARRC at Riverside he actually took 1st, making him the 1966 US Champion. In 1967 at the ARRC at Daytona he had pole position and came very close to a repeat performance, but came in 3rd just behind Dick Smith's 427 Cobra and Tony DeLorenzo's L88 Corvette. If you ended up with any of Lowther's trophies from this era I believe the current owner of 427 Cobra CSX3009 would be interested in hearing from you. - Wade |
Re: Don Yenko Championship Trophy
I did the owner of the Cobra one better than that! I reunited the car with Ed's original Cobra race suit...

Thanks! This is another of Ed Lowther's Cobra suits. It now resides in the Shelby America Museum in Colorado...
