1969 L-78 TH 400 tag ?
Hi guys,
I´m going to look at a 1969 TH 400 later this week thinking of buying it for our L-78 Nova Project. What would the tag on the transmission look like if it is correct ? Pics please ! Thanks Anders |

The CX TH400 tag was nicely reproduced over 20 years ago.

I got a pic today showing CT-69. What was the application for such a trans ? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...019_105927.jpg |
Re: 1969 L-78 TH 400 tag ?
After Googling CT one source says it´s probably from a C10 or C20. If so, would a CT be much different than a CX when i comes to function ? Or are they basically the same ? |
Re: 1969 L-78 TH 400 tag ?
The basic transmission is the same...but there are a number of special features that were added to the CX units that lived behind the solid lifter big block cars.
There is a dedicated thread in this section that talks about the special features; https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbthrea...imil#Post102599 The CX unit was a HD tranny...built to take the added torque of the hi-horse big blocks...it included a 6 lug hi-stall converter, hi-shift point governor and many other parts exclusive to the application. Any TH400 can be built to these specs...you just need someone who understands the details. wilma |

Thanks Tom, great thread ! That was just what I was looking for. The CT transmission that I´m going to look at and probably buy is built to last, so I´m not worried about the torque of the L-78. But I´ll be looking for a CX trans in the future. I'm running a '69 CT tagged trans behind a GM 502/502 (street only) and haven't heard a whisper out of it in almost 10 years(?)- although the trans was rebuilt with the necessary "goodies".
