1970 Chevelle Data Tag?
<span style="font-weight: bold">My buddy is actively looking for a 70 Chevelle and I have some Data Tag questions. Here's what I believe to know at this point and would like some guidance.
You can't really tell if a car is a real Chevelle SS by The Vin or Data tag unless it was Canada build and then Z15 would be on Tag. YES or NO? Does the sequence #'s or Plant give any clue's? YES or NO? Rear sway bar and boxed lower control arms are a good indication along with 3/8 fuel line? YES or NO? **Also what #'s should be stamped into the left rear frame rail???? What else will help us in the search? Thanks Ron</span> |
Re: 1970 Chevelle Data Tag?
1)For a std. Super Sport,Yes.
2)For a std. Super Sport,No. 3)Yes,but those can be added by anyone too. 4)If you mean parallel to the driver side tail pipe, the frames part#,makers mark & date frame was assembled. 5) I will. |
Re: 1970 Chevelle Data Tag?
With some further reading it seems Z15 would be on a Canada DT if it was a 454 car or even 396?
Yes I'm looking for the #'s by tail pipe to see if the frame would be a Chevy frame in the right time frame and not a Skylark or LeMans type frame etc... I know there is a Vin on the frame under the driver seat area but body would have to be off frame to read it right? Thanks Ron |
Re: 1970 Chevelle Data Tag?
Z15 is 454 LS-5.....No 454 LS-6's assembled @ Oshawa Canada.
Z25 is 396 L-34.....No 396 L-78's assembled @ Oshawa Canada. I've never seen anything under a drivers seat, just a CON-VIN,(not a full VIN),on the rear rail behind the back bumper and yes,the body would have to be off to see it if there. |
