Fender bolt color
1968-1972 Nova. Need to know what color the upper fender bolts are near the windshield pillar. Body color or black. Same with the two lower fender bolts underneath. Body color or black.

Re: Fender bolt color
Pretty sure the cowl was painted prior to installing the fenders, so they would be black phosphate.
|
Re: Fender bolt color
Indeed black phosphate.
|
Re: Fender bolt color
I believe it is black oxide. The phosphate leaves a texture like hood hinges, and hood latches.

Re: Fender bolt color
Thanks fellas.

Re: Fender bolt color
I believe that BLACK phosphate is technically MANGANESE Phosphate

Re: Fender bolt color
Definitely not body color, as stated above.
Different product, but relevant story: when I worked on the assembly line at the truck plant we ran whatever we could. The bolts at the front of the fender (pt number 3846202) that attached to the radiator support were supposed to be black but we discovered the cadmium version of the same bolt would not crossthread or break the weldnuts loose as easily. ("Lang" and "Ferndale" were the two fastener manufacturers but I don't remember which ones were the "good" ones). As a result we would search through the plant and grab all the silver bolts we could find. We would run them on second shift and then stash them in our lockers when we left, putting all of the black bolts out for first shift. They could never figure out why they had so many cross threaded bolts and we didn't. K |

Re: Fender bolt color
Searching for commercial plater that can do AUTOMATED Prepping (Glaas Bead ??) of
my fasteners and then MANGANESE Phosphate. I'm well aware of doing this myself and I have blast cabinet, PALMETTO Chemicals and done that, been there I have significant volume of misc Camaro OEM fasteners and looking to get them DONE by commercial vendor...... Thanks............ |
Re: Fender bolt color
Chuck take a trip to Mukilteo & drop of a "LOT" batch @
http://www.productionplating.com/services.html I have used them for MANY batched of Zinc & been very happy They are local & pricing is very reasonable NO SHIPPING as they are very easy to find and accept swing shift drop offs if you can not get there during day shift hours. JIM |
