Odd: No 'Disc Brake' medallion on brake pedal, but I should be so lucky to have that nice a car.

So your Corvette has an over-the-counter LS6 454 short-block?

I'm not sure what the internals to the engine are.

I wasn't sure it was a 454 until I removed the starter and saw the counterweights on the flywheel.

Is there a way to verify what short block was used without opening up the engine?

The pad is stamped with the 1972 CE numbers and there is T062 stamped by the starter flange.

Check your casting number on the back ridge/bellhousing mount area behind the block. Check inside the back of your harmonic balancer, it should have this extra chunk of metal around the inside partial circumference for a 454 balancer.

Then have a look above your oil filter mounting area for the difference between 2-bolt engine and a 4-bolt (hi-performance LS6 or LS7) application.

If you are lucky enough to have an LS7 , there MAY be a clue here in this location. But 1972 strikes me as a little early for the use of the LS7 'XCH' suffix code in this location, I doubt you will find it here but there is an outside chance I suppose .

Since the ad mentions the original heads were re-used...I would think an LS6 short block wouldn't work with the oval port heads...I believe the high dome pistons would require a different combustion chamber.

Re: 1967 Corvette Coupe 427/390 A/C Unrestored driver

Here's the scoop on the block:

Casting number 3999289 = 454 2 bolt main block
Casting date: F 21 72 = June 21, 1972
Stamping by starter flange: T062 = Tonawanda June 1972
Pad stamping: CE264155 = CE warranty block, 1972 date, Work order #64155

All the above info matches the owners history of the car, with this engine being installed in 1972.
