Oxidized aluminum moldings

Can anyone provide insight as to removal of oxidation from aluminum moldings? My 71' Nova's original moldings from the front of fenders and hood and around tail lights is pretty disgusting to look at. I have Googled the issue and most indicate to remove the anodized coating, polish and wax or clear coat.

What say the experts here?

Thanks -- TAZ

That's the way to go. I removed the anodizing on my El Camino moldings with oven cleaner, then polished the aluminum on a buffing wheel. The hard part is re-anodizing. Not something I could do. But there are outfits that do it. My cars never get wet, so it's easy to keep the aluminum shiny, without the anodizing. Not sure about clear coating aluminum.

Thanks Bill -- I have thought about using a mag wheel clear as it seems to last. It's worth the time to experiment on small pieces to see results. TAZ

Here's how I removed the anodizing from the 72 T/A moldings:
