Re: Dana 60 identifacation

Can you provide the backing plate-to-backing plate width measurement please? 8 25 69 is a good sign as it is a Dana 60 for a 1970 or 1971 Dodge or Plymouth - it was assembled August 25, 1969. But 1969 assembly dates have been documented in 1971 model year cars. The width nails down whether it was put in a B body or E body.

The stamped numbers are the assembly date (sometimes there are 2) and the usage codes.

Here are the usage codes.........

Bill of Materials Numbers:
68-69 B body 3.54 Powr-Lok 602957-1, -2, -3, -4
4.10 Powr-Lok 602957-5, -6
69.5-70 B body 3.54 Powr-Lok 603109-1, -2
4.10 Powr-Lok 603109-3, -5

70-72 B body 3.54 Trac-Lok 603222-1, -2
4.10 Trac-Lok 603222-3

I can't quite make out the number on your pic.....I see 6031xx

If it is none of the above it would be for an E-body. Here is the list including e-body.

Bill of Materials Numbers:
68-69 B body 3.54 Powr-Lok 602957-1, -2, -3, -4
4.10 Powr-Lok 602957-5, -6
69.5-72 B body 3.54 Powr-Lok 603109-1, -2
4.10 Powr-Lok 603109-3, -5
4.56 Powr-Lok 603109-6, -7, -8
70-72 B body 3.54 Trac-Lok 603222-1, -2
4.10 Trac-Lok 603222-3
4.56 Trac-Lok 603222-4
75-77 B body 5.13 Powr-Lok 603347-2
5.38 Powr-Lok 603347-1
69-71 E body 3.54 Powr-Lok 603080-1, -2, -4
4.10 Powr-Lok 603080-3, -5

Re: Dana 60 identifacation

I am going to measure backing plate to backing plate, also this rear does not have a oil plug drilled and tapped into it.Thanks a bunch for the info provided.

66-67 and some 68's had a drain plug on the housing.....none did after that.

Re: Dana 60 identifacation

603109-2....70-72 and up B-Body, 3.54 Powerlock. The dash number for an A12 car would have been -3 or -5, not the -2, for the 4.10 gears. Built too late to be an A12 rear, anyway. An A12 rear would have been around February or April, plus or minus a bit based on build date of the car. That's just a rough estimate, but the date on your rear is too late, and A12s only came with 4.10 gears as well. Hope that helps!

Right you are, the A12 were batch cars....forgot about that. Isn't the '71-'72 fuselage body B-bodies fitted with a wider Dana than the '70 b-body though - by a couple inches?

Re: Dana 60 identifacation

Correct. The perch mounts are different as are the hub to hub measurements between the 70 B-Bodies and the later years. Measuring the widths will tell you which year it'll fit. Why they are classified in the same group, I don't know. I could make something up that sounds cool, but I'm not that smart

Cheers
