What motor is this 327 or 350
 

Picked up a motor on Monday, Has a Virgin Bore.
Casting is hard to read but block has a stamp of CEA135856 Casting date of B41 and a O2 71 V shows on the under side of the Starter mount.
The guy I bought it from told me it sat in his garage for 29 years and it is a 327 warranty motor for a 65 Corvette.
Any info much appreciated.

It could have been either.
But it probably wasn't a warranty block for a 65 Vette - it was out of warranty by 71.

I have a 327 Cam-Lifters-Pistons, Are they any different in size then a 350?

Diameter of the pistons is the same, but the location of the wrist pin is different on a 350 than it is on a 327. 350 pistons will be down the hole if used with a 327 crank and 327 pistons will come out of the top of the block when used with a 350 crank. Cam and lifters will interchange.

I have some experience with the 3959512, which this appears to be. You can see some more info in this thread and the links within there.

Though it has the road draft holes, it should be a medium journal crank (typical 350 size- bigger than small journal 327 but smaller than the 400 sbc mains).

I think this block showed up in 1968 and wax mostly used in CE applications.

Thanks Paul [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif[/img], The guy I bought it from did tell me it was a 327 he got from warranty for his 66 Corvette so it all makes sense. I also got a ton of 327 parts along with the motor but I just wanted to confirm everything.

I read up on this Warranty 3959512 block and it seems to be a 302/327/350 replacement block depending on what size crank you use. Seems to be a great Small block motor. I am glad I picked it up.

Yup, the block is the same, but the pistons and crank are unique per displacement.
Could be a 66 warranty block, but doubtful on the 65 unless he just bought it as a service part.

I'd be suspicious that GM would replace a small journal block with a medium journal CE motor. It would be more likely that a 65/66 knowledgable Corvette owner may have made the choice for himself outside of warrany.

I can tell you the block we used checked out way above average on thickness and other critical areas. I say it is one of the best stock block foundations. Good luck!
