battery spitting acid
 

The Nova seems to be spitting acid through the vent after a drive and making a mess. Anybody have any simple tests to see if it the alternator or voltage regulator is to blame here.? Thx for the help

Why are you still using a wet battery?
I got rid of mine when the industry came out with the solid R-59 Gel many many years ago.

I had your problem and it was usually do to a cell being too full of electrolyte/distilled water,or the cell not being able to breathe due to the cap filters being clogged and needed cleaning.
I'd clean by soaking in a 50/50 mix of baking soda & water periodically.

Probably right with that statement. Just want to check the V reg and Alternator to make sure there are no issues there, cause if there is a problem, wont matter what kind of battery I have

Measure the voltage at the battery while running. If it's too high, that could cause it.

Don't rule out the battery having an internal short. You'll need a professional style battery charger (not one of those little guys).

If you can get something like 20 amps going into the battery and a separate volt meter at the battery and it reads 15v or greater, it likely is shorted internally.

These internal shorts can cause your alternator to full field when driving down the road aND bois off the good cells.
