Firebird Q-Jet 7029268 baseplate with a . . .
 

snapped off driver's side rear ear. Question is; could a welder cut a similar corner from another Q-Jet, massage it a wee bit and weld it to the above 9268 base plate in order to bolt the Quadrajet on safely and not be noticeable thereby using the original base plate?

A wee bit of history on this. Maybe 35 years ago, when I was collecting any and all Q-Jets, I spotted this one in a garage trash barrel and took her home. I guess at the time, welding of this material was not do-able. Now 35 - 40 years later I am asking this Q.

Yes it can be welded--but I advise against it.

The parent metal is of mediocre quality which makes it difficult to weld, and you can pretty much guarantee there will be evidence of the repair.

Those carbs/bases aren't that hard to find. I'd hold out for a donor parts carb and harvest the base from it.
