Where abouts of a 1970 LS6 Chevelle
I was looking thru some pictures and ran across a picture of this 396 1970 Chevelle I had and made me think of another 70 I had at that time. I was a mechanic at UPS and was talking to one of the package car drivers, of course he knew I was into cars and telling me about a guy on his route who had a 1970 Chevelle for sale and gave me his number. I called him that night and told him I wanted to see the car. The car was in a pretty rough area in Chicago this was around 1982 around White Sox park. He had locks and bars on his garage once we got in there it was a 1970 Fathom blue chevelle cowl inducted white stripes. He told me at one time some one broke in his garage and had stolen the engine out of it he put a engine out of a 67 Chevelle in it but was afraid to even take it out so it sat for years.
I started looking at the car and the first thing I seen was the high horse tach and the car had 9000 miles on it. The closer I looked it sure looked like it was original paint that was in real good shape but it did have bottom lower rust on the front fenders. The interior was very nice bench seat 4 speed car but I had never seen a Chevelle with a cloth interior and was unsure if it was original. Pretty excited I made a deal and bought the car loaded on the trailer as soon as I got back into a good neighber hood I pulled over and took the back seat out and there it was the build sheet a LS6 Chevelle. I went to sell the phathom blue 396 car and the guy would only buy it if I gave him the hood off the LS6 car since it was the same color I am not sure but I think he took the trunk lid also. so I did since I had other ones laying around. I had to sell it because of another car I bought I sold it body only to a guy in Arizona. So I often wonder what happened to a 1970 9000 mile blue LS6 Chevelle 4 speed, cloth interior, windshield washer monitoring, cowl ind, tach gauges. Wish I could find the copy of the build sheet but I cant. |
