Bill I thought the same thing. Were the rear wheel wells cut that big from the factory. I do know they cut them but that looks excessive. A good friend of mines has one sitting in the corner of his garage covered up with the motor sitting next to it also covered say it's been there since 73.

Cool car. One of THE baddest to come from the factory with all of the race goodies! From photos it may have started life as an automatic, i.e. "SS/AA" from article on car when it had Keysones rear and slots front.

The vintage photos in the ebay listing show how Hurst originally modified the wheel wells during the build process. The car as it sits today is tubbed and the original wheel wells and inner and outer wells are gone.

As far as the external dimensions of the wheel well opening, here is a shot of a car built by Greg Fernald (SS and AFX) for comparison. Compare the two photos wrt the 1st crease below the gas filler cap...
