I was emailed the link to that story last night. The owner has had an amazing racing career. I'd love to own that car..... I'm sure Jeff Helms and the Z16 guys have known the history on the car for years but it was unknown to me and fascinating. I hope he gets the car cleaned up and operational again...

Cliff Gottlob's life would make a pretty good movie. Quite a character... actually DROVE one of the original 20 1967 L88 Corvettes to Daytona and won the race in the car - he honed his driving skills with none other than Ken Miles from Shelby American who personally taught Gottlob how to handle the Vette at Daytona. A Legend.

Would be a great candidate for Vintage Certification, or barn find area, or just on display at the 2017 MCACN show!

If you ever meet Cliff and get him talking, he will entertain you beyond belief. His 1967 L88 and his 1965 Corvette were in the Great Hall collection at Bloomington a few years ago along with Cliff. He kept every piece of paperwork on the 1967 L88 including the window sticker.

To correct an "Alternative Fact" being said by PGN,they assembled 201 Z-16 Chevelles, not 200.
Original Tonawanda records show they produced 221 total 1965 L-37 396/375HP IX coded Manual trans. running engines.
Chevrolet records show they installed 201 of those engines into 201 Manually trans. equipped Chevelles.
The remaining 20 IX coded engines were left for service engines.
Many people attended NCOA meets throughout the US back in the 1980's/90's,and I went to the one were Fran Preve talked about this with us,as he was allowed access to the Tonawanda plant & records.I still have a copy of those records he copied for us as I know many others still do from that day.And there was a lot of us.
The bottom line is Chevrolet assembled 201 running Z-16 Chevelles in 1965,whether you recognize one being a convertible or not.
If you don't believe there ever was a Z-16 convertible made, they still made 201 running 1965 Z-16 Chevelles.

I thought I just read where THE only Z-16 Convertible had been found and was currently under restoration.

I heard many years ago that Chevrolet built one 300 Deluxe Chevelle body with a Z16 engine. Probably an urban legend but has anybody else heard that one?

Thanks for posting Darrell! Very cool that's it been brought to light for people that didn't know about it. Lots of pics in the article I've been looking for.
