Monte Carlo / Chevelle frame and running gear

If I were doing an LS build on a Chevelle, I would be interested in this set up. You could have it all done and ready to set your body on. Then sell your frame, etc. when done.

Frame, engine, trans, and 12 bolt for $1,500

Close to me if someone needs it checked out.

I had someone tell me the Monte used a wagon frame. Would a chevelle body work if this is true??

4-doors also used the 116" wheelbase frame. Only 2-doors were 112". Back in my parts days a local resto shop needed a Chevelle frame. Got one from out west; stripped, rebuilt, painted. Wrong frame.

Is the 12 bolt the same as an A body? That whole set seems very reasonable

Yes, 12 bolt is the same, but did not know the frames were diff.

Well, that's what I get for not being an "A" body guy. Did not realize the wb was 4 inches longer.

Friend of mine needed a frame for a 68 442. He found a guy with chevelle parts and and we went and got a frame. It really looked long and I started kidding him it was a station wagon. He got really worked up and kept measuring it. It did work but he had to get chevelle fuel and brake lines if I remember right and then they needed tweeked a bit. When the lines didnt fit he got really worked up.

Isn't the length difference from the cowl forward?
Think of the long fan shrouds on the Montes.

Re: Monte Carlo / Chevelle frame and running gear

I was out at Carlise about 6 years ago for the SLS with Don Stowers and found a guy there selling a mint Monte Carlo frame with absolutely mint and virgin fuel and brake lines, clips and brackets, disc brakes, control arms, steering gear, etc. The only thing missing was the rearend. We brought Don's Yenko to the show so I had NO way to get the frame in his trailer and Don did not seem to entertained when I suggested putting it on the roof of the trailer. I ended up borrowing some tools from someone at the show, stripping all the parts from the frame, loading all the parts in Don's trailer and giving the guy the frame back for free. He thought he had died and gone to heaven. If that was the case, I was the gate keeper.
