A nice surprise from my neighbor today

My neighbor calls me earlier today and says hey, I got a motor I want to get out of here and you're just the guy for it. Come on over he says.So I'm thinking it must be some beater 283 or something? Wrong.

I drive over and he's got a freshly machined 010 block with a 10/10 forged crank, Clevite bearings, resized pink rods, forged .030 slugs, 062 vortec heads, Edelbrock intake, and an oil pan. He says here's the receipts for the machining...now get it out of here and it's yours (Free).

I said thanks and he even drove over to help unload it. Great neighbor! :beers:

Never looked at the dates and paperwork until tonight but it's all good. Block was magged, bored with torque plates, decked, cleaned, cam bearings installed and it was then greased up throughout. Casting is 3970010 dated F-11-9 with 2482 main caps. Crank is an 1182 turned 10/10 with a couple spots that might need polished after sitting. Pink rods were resized and balanced but he has to find the box with the rods still. Pistons are hypereutectic .030 flat tops so this will likely go together as a spare with a mechanical cam and maybe make 400hp with those 062 heads. The Edelebrock 2913 intake is a far too large for the motor but I'll find another build it'll be used on. Pretty good haul for a gift from a friendly neighbor.

Wonder what it was stamped with before being decked. Will have to look for a VIN tomorrow

----We should start a thread about neighbors, both good and bad. It always seems that we have one good one and one bad one. This guy didn't want us to put a low iron style fence down about 60 feet of our 750 foot property line. It was legal. It was my property. I went to his business to explain my side and he threw me off his property. The fence looks good!!!
----Only good part is that neither he nor his wife are hardly ever home. That sort of makes him a semi-good neighbor. Sorry for the off-topic.....Bill S

That's mighty funny Bill. I especially like this comment;

Dave,

I've only spoken to this neighbor a handful of times in the few years I've been here, but he's a nice guy and figured with me being a car guy who's always tinkering with a hot rod, and 10 years of this engine sitting around coated in cosmoline, he'd better give it to someone who was going to do something with it.

I told him I'd call him over to hear it run on the test stand after it's built. Now I have to decide on a camshaft and a top end for it.
