Question, I recently got a 69 Nova with protect-o-plate, don't get too excited, just a 350 2 barrel car, but it specifies 735 custom bright blue interior, on the firewall plate. The car has rubber mat flooring, which is throwing me off, as i assume it should be carpet, but the mat looks very original. To make matters worse, the front seat, was recovered, poorly, in blue with cloth inserts, but the rear seat is original vinyl. So the question is can a car still be original if seemingly conflicting info on the trim tag.

Also tag along question, it has PN for an axle code on the POP, i cannot find that for 69 Nova, any info would be appreciated.

As for the rubber mat, totally normal. IIRC, the only option that required carpeting was bucket seats. The bucket seat option automatically upgraded the interior to 'Deluxe' which included carpeting, fancy door panels, bright trim, etc.... Otherwise, the rubber mat was standard unless some other interior upgrade option group was selected that included carpeting.

Also, all of the rubber mats are actually black, they just sprayed the top side with color. I'm sure someone would be more than happy to buy you the best blue carpeting available in exchange for that rubber mat - if its in good shape!

Not sure on the PN code, it wasn't in the Alan Colvin books?

As for the interior color question, still, how dead accurate are the trim tags, like if it says 735, will it always be 735, or could it just wind up being blue vinyl, but not deluxe cloth and vinyl?

I've not seen discrepancies between the actual TT and assy line installations, only cases where the wrong Broadcast Sheet was in the car - but even then, the interior code matched and just the body number was for another car.

Although rare, it is not unheard of to have incorrect trim tag info. There is a genuine 69 Z near me with X-11 code on trim tag( which is incorrect for a Z).
I also owned a 69 camaro years ago that has NBR stamped on the trim tag instead of NOR. Also the trim tag has a date of 0C.

I'm sure there are others out there. Never say never !

I think the problem is you are mistaken about the 735 code...the 735 code is for a 'standard' blue cloth interior...the 'custom' upgrade is 736. So, a 735 interior would have correctly come with a rubber floor mat instead of carpeting. Cloth seats were not completely cloth, they were a combination of cloth and vinyl...so, if the backseat is all vinyl, there is an issue.

Bottom line...the TT is correct.

As noted the PN axle code is a correct option for a 1969 Nova. In fact, the 3.08 posi makes sense given the 350 V8 engine...
