That engine stamp looks just like the stamping from my old 66 L-79 Chevy II that I purchased back in 1985. As far as I know, the VIN was individually stamped and was not straight or neat. Trans should also be stamped in the same manner.

FWIW here is a 427 Impala block stamped a few months earlier....Oct 65 casting.
One of the vin numbers is halfway off the edge of the pad - definitely not gang-stamped. Engine block stamp looks to me like it's gang-stamped.
