G70x15 on a 1969 Camaro
 

I did a search on the site and came up with nothing.

Has anyone ever had G70x15's on a 1969 Camaro, preferably on factory Rallye Wheels? If so, any tire rub problems? Does anyone have a pic of a 1969 Camaro with G70x15's? I thought for sure one would pop up on a generic Google search, but no luck there either.

Kicking around the idea of the new FR70x15 Firestone radial redlines, just curious if anyone has ever had G70x15's on a 69 Camaro or if F70x15's are as big as the wheelwells will handle.

Edit : Metric equivalent of G70x15 is P225/70R15, so if anyone has run this size on a 69 Camaro, factory 15x7 Rallye rims, please chime in.

I am 99% certain we ran a G70 15 in the rear without issue, stock 15.7 rally wheels.

But, I don't thing they would work on the front without rubbing.

Thank you Lynn! Interesting, I've found a few pics online of examples wearing P225/70R15, and none of them seem to have wheelwell trim. Wonder if it's that close up front?

Found a couple '69 Firebirds too, either without wheelwell trim, on in one example the wheelwell trim is missing (as in a gap) right at the peak of the front wheelwell, which tells me they had tire rub.

Perhaps the F70x15 (or P225/70R15) is the safest bet....

You can run them staggered. 215 in the front and 225 in the rear.

Just for perspective, I run 255 60 15 in the back on my Centerline wheels and they are not even close to rubbing. Have seen some guys running 275 60 15, but I had a pair on there, and am certain they would have rubbed under extreme conditions.

My 255 60 is actually a little shorter at 27.04 inches tall than the 225 70 15 (27.4 inches tall). And since they are 30mm narrower (about 1.2 inches) there is no way a 225 70 15 would rub in the rear. Lots more room under the rear.

I run 215 70 r15 up front on Centerlines (no style trim so no wheel well molding) but would not run anything bigger. I do not have the exact same off set as the stock rally wheels up front. I think plenty of guys run old F70 15 on rally wheels or 215 70 R15 radials on rally wheels up front. I kind of like the staggered look on my car. Of course, every time I put the rallys and the bias ply tires on, I really like that look as well.

Here it is both ways. I don't think I have any pics with the rallys after installing all the trim.

I have run 235/60-15 and 215/70-15s on the front of '69 Camaros with no rubbing. Both on a 15x7 'FW' and 'YH' Rally wheel, no issues.

Lynn, your Z looks great with the Centerlines! Looks good with the Rallys too....

We had a long discussion about this a while back. Don't know where that thread is, I suck at searching, but I can briefly go over what works and doesn't work on our 69 RS Z.

With the stock rally's the 215-70-15 is nearly identical in size to the original E70-15's the car came equipped with, and are the radial equivalent, they work perfectly fine.

I've had 225-70-15's on the front, and they work but they are a pinch wider and taller, and get very close to the top of the wheel well. In certain turning situations and odd angles they would very lightly rub the top.

I switched to a 215-65-15, slightly shorter but slightly wider. This also seems to work okay but again, only on very odd angles and tight corners I get a mild rub at the top of the fender. These are currently on the car and daily driven, the rub isn't enough to worry about.

When I need another set of front tires I'll go back to the 215-70-15. That size worked fine, cleared the RS plastic covers and doesn't rub the top of the fenders.

On the back I run 255-60-15's. They fit fine with no rubbing anyplace. however I can barely get my finger between the side wall and the wheel well lip, and have actually cut my fingers several times while cleaning the tires. It's that close. I wouldn't dare try anything bigger on mine in the rear, it would most certainly rub.

Yes, The F70-15's should fit without issues. The GR70-15 Firestones should fit the rear without issue. Firestones are typically a shorter tire that other reproduction tire. Give me a call, I will be happy to help.. 816-654-3400
