1967 Camaro 4-sp Muncie Shifter - Stamped/Unstamped
 

I have a very nice 1967 Camaro shifter that was pulled from a gorgeous California survivor RS/SS maybe 20 years ago. Wasn't my idea, but a college friend of mine decided he was done with the stock shifter and gave me this one in a box. I came across it last weekend and was surprised to see the stick is not stamped 'Muncie.' This car was/is a #s 295hp 350 Super Sport with its original Muncie (and this I personally verified, when I rebuilt it for him after he blew the driveshaft out of it and took part of the tailhousing with it).

I'm contemplating selling the shifter but I don't know if an unstamped handle could be considered correct in '67. I've searched around but the results seem pretty inconclusive. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Usually its the cars with Saginaw transmissions that have the unstamped handles as you probably know. Will be interesting to see what you can find out.

This also brings up a question I have had. It seems to me I did see something that stated this was true. My 1967 RS was built 3rd week of October 1966 in California it is an L30 with the standard 3-speed trans with floor shift and a console. I have owned it since September of 1976 and it came to me with a 3-speed shifter with a "MUNCIE" shift handle. That shifter was long worn out and removed and is not available any more. I ordered a new 4-speed shift lever from a Chevy dealer when I installed a Muncie. Finding correct shift rods was not fun or easy at that time. The new shift lever did not have "MUNCIE" on it so I had a colleague cut my old handle off and weld it on the new shifter which is in the car today. I have bought a replacement 3-speed shifter with a "T" mark on the handle but if my car was originally constructed with a 3-speed "MUNCIE" shifter, I would like to find a handle to put in this shifter. Sorry to hijack & change the subject some.

No.

I was told by Chevy Dealership mechanics that if a customer had trouble shifting the dealer would try adjusting the shifter rods but if they still had trouble shifting the dealer would install a replacement shifter.

There was a service replacement part number that was just the shifter with no rods or other parts.

I had a few of these NOS replacement shifters over the years

If someone had one of these replacement shifters installed , they may not have always got one with the MUNCIE stamp
