Mid year Corvette BOOM.
I was in one of Hassett's 427 midyear cars at high top speed and I noticed it getting a little light feeling in the front end - not really bad just uneasy feeling.
Then I watched this and went "wow" that is exactly what I was afraid of happening. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpTj3I9ZrE8 |
Yikes, I hope he survived.

Good gracious!! More details please! How is the driver????
|
Yuck... That one should have had a wheelie bar. It looks like it would have prevented that. Hope he's alright. Quite a hit coming straight down and exploding.

Well, you won’t have to see that butchered up vette anymore.

Holy crap!! I can't imagine driving the car and all of a sudden looking up at the sky one second then down at the track! It's good to hear that he survived. That's scary!!

That was actually a very nice car built by him and his father. Was at the SEMA show. They had owned it for a long time. Car was doing almost 160 MPH in the 1/8 mile. They were working on getting the car dialed in and probably making power in the 1700 1800 horsepower range.

Here is Hassett's car very fast and you could feel the front end begin to float at around 115-120.:3gears:

As much as I love those cars the lift created by the nose shape has always been a concern when very high MPH’s are being attained.
