PIT Maneuver goes way wrong

High Speed Crash Physics on display. Cruiser goes 30 feet in the air.

Wow!

That Trooper looks like he's about 17 in that photo - I know the minimum age is 21, but he looks young to me.

Tragic all the way around.

Perp got his dues, trooper did a masterful job, too bad the pole was there. I wonder if he watched Dukes of Hazzard growing up.
Pit manoeuvre at that speed was risky, he only had one shot.

Poor training and judgment,PIT maneuvers were never intended to be preformed above 40 mph and in fact most well trained officers are instructed today not attempt the maneuver over 30 mph.

Looks like a scene from Dukes of Hazard. All for enforcing the laws, but seems all this over a guy rolling through a stop sign seems a bit extreme and escalated to a tragic and costly ending. A lot of jurisdictions call off chases once speeds get too high over something like a traffic infraction. If the guy just murdered someone then it's a bit different.

Wow. Impressive crash.

At least the Trooper is OK and there is one less scumbag walking the planet.

More Crash Physics.

Watch the white car. It is being pursued by the police although the police have (at this point) completely broken off pursuit in the interest of public safety.

Well, not sure why, but the chase began when he ran a red light :(

An officer with the U.S. Forest Service began pursuing a Dodge headed south on U.S. 71 around 6:30 a.m. Friday, according to a state police news release. The officer reportedly saw the vehicle fail to stop for a traffic signal and pass through the intersection along the highway shoulder.

I've got no sympathy for anyone who runs from the cops. I cut a dead baby out of a car on Metropolitan Avenue in Atlanta. The guy that was running from APD t-boned the car with the baby in the back seat(in a car seat) when he ran a red light. The baby was the only fatality.

In the jurisdictions that do not allow officer pursuits, this gives the criminals free rein to do what ever they want knowing that they will not be chased. I hate seeing innocent victims hurt in a chase, as I firefighter believe me it is not cool, but just as importantly the more leeway we give these perps the more they push the envelope and do whatever they feel like doing. Its bad enough that most get out the same night with little more than a slap on the hand and a fine which they will never pay.
