75 years ago today the official Japanese surrender documents were signed on the deck of the battleship USS Missouri...General Douglas MacArthur presided over the event. America and the world celebrated that the fighting was finally over....this AP story has some interesting information.

In our AM safety meeting I asked if anyone knew what today was? Sorry to say, no one did.
I salute our American hero's.

Here, here! My 1st duty station was at Naval Station Long Beach (CA) and my work space was in a WWII era Quonset hut and it was a stone’s throw from the docks including a view of the Mighty Mo’ (BB62). She had recently been brought out of mothballs and refitted with then modern war fighting capabilities (but of course she still had her 16” guns which always seem to get everyone’s attention). When she was in port, she was a sight to be seen and very inspirational!

Edit: oops, BB63.....memory a tad faulty!

I can't thank the Vets enough for all their sacrifice. :worship::flag: When I was working in Hawaii I made sure to get over to the Arizona memorial and set foot on the decks of the Missouri. I'll never forget either experience.

One of the highlights of things I have done with my family so far - the Arizona Memorial and tour of the Missouri - to stand in the spot where those documents were signed is pretty amazing.

And if I could figure out how to rotate this picture of the Arizona Memorial I would...........sorry

VJ Day...

We need to be aware of our history and the people who made it...sometimes this may not be PC...but, you can't know where you are going, if you don't know where you have been!
