72 BMW 3.0CS on BaT

Cool old BMW Coupe here in the PacNW. I know there's more than a couple BMW fanboys here:https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-bmw-3-0cs-19/

Wow. Already up to 35k. 7 days to go. Very nice example and great colors.

I had a 73 Bavaria in the same color combo. These are not near the cruisers that the later model Bimmers are, but they FEEL much lighter than they are. Very nimble; handling is great for 1972 standards.

Here is a bit of trivia (of course, guys that ONLY care about American muscle don't care):

What are the two objects I have circled, and what is their purpose? All the 70's Bimmers I owned had the same feature.

Upper strut bearings.

Those are spacers to adjust the bumper ride height to meet US specs. My folks bought a brand new '72 Bavaria from Hoffman in the Chicago area, Riviera blue with tan interior. I remember going to the lot to pick it out. We got the base model and my step dad had an aftermarket radio installed. I remember the price as being $6K new.

Exactly. They were originally installed on top of the strut but under tower, to raise the car up 14mm. Removing them and placing on top would lower the car to Euro height.
