defective parts thread
 

After conversing with Dave (A12pilot) about the fun he went through trying to get the purple Cuda running (which turned out to be a defectively built reproduction metal cannister fuel filter that had no internal passage for fuel to get through), I thought I'd start a new thread on bizarre defective parts.

Here's one I dealt with years ago on a 426 Hemi. I was wondering why it would run out of fuel at the end of the 1/4 mile. Take a look at the three outlet fuel block. You will notice that one of the passages was not drilled through, thereby transforming it into a bend in the road and not a fork. No fuel was going to the front carb at all. I only found this by accident when i went to replace the entire fuel line setup.

What have you guys run into over the years?

Pretty much every aftermarket sheetmetal panel I've installed. They ALL need messaging, to say the least.


I did get a brake line nut with no threads one time.

Recently bought a defective T-stat. Brand new; would not open even in boiling water.

Almost all the SBC mechanical fuel pumps these days have way too much pressure. Will overwhelm a needle and seat. Had one that tested at 12 psi. Should be between 4 and 7.

I've seen blocked Fuel T's like that before,usually at swap meets where the guys sell those NEW knock off tools for $1..I bought one just to have as a novelty.It was the only one in the box,and he wanted double price..LOL.
