Attention Ignition Guru's
Hi all.
Hope everyone had a great Xmas. Looking for some ignition advice for my Chevelle ('69 396/350 4 speed) as the MSD RTR 8360 has killed the coil and the module. As all of this gear has been made in China, like most, for years and I don't want to throw good money after bad, I'm looking at changing it out to something more worthy and would like some recommendations if I can? I was thinking either a 1111498 with a Pertronix set up, a Pertronix Stock Look distributor or, given my Chevelle is a driver, a 1111498 with a points set up. TIA. |
I have a Crane pointless system in the orig distributor for my L78. It has worked flawlessly for 10 yrs or so, I've never had to touch it (knock on something)

I have the 498 with points mine runs fine

I run factory points in the concourse restored cars.....for daily drivers or local car cruise cars....(for well over a decade) I have used a Pointless One Wire System. I have tried and used various systems they are all very similar and work great!
Damien for your Chevelle....I would definitely go with a pointless system. Very easy install. Dan |
I have a friend who uses the Crane conversion, exclusively, and swears by them. I have Pertronix internal conversion in 2 original distributors and the original appearance replacement in 2, WITH the correct, matching ohm coils. Why Pertronix continues with the different ohm coils is beyond me. With the correct coils, I have had no problems in 10 years. The higher voltage will produce faster starts and better throttle response.

I’ve had a Pertronix system in my car for 15+ years with no issues. Easy to install also.

Is there anyone in the US still making oil filled coils? I like to buy a couple of quality coils and bypass the Chinese junk if I can. Thinking I may go with a Pertronix Ignitor 11 D104600 at this stage. |

Summit lists your number as an Igniter I. This is the unit I buy...Igniter III D7104600 Summit's description lists this as magnetic, but Pertronix lists it as a multi spark, which seems to be a hall effect... They don't seem to list as much info about the products anymore, such as the ohms of the distributor for the correct coil. Looking at "suggested parts" shows both ohms for this distributor ??????? Might want to call Pertronix direct and get the info. |
