'71 'Cuda Project, #s 383/4-speed
Looks like a pretty decent car to start with. Seller claims it's one of five produced in this configuration, but hard to verify without more info.

With that VIN, this is a Barracuda coupe. The rear quarter windows don't roll down. According to Galen Govier's handy little production numbers book, they made 592 v8s in this configuration - most all were 318's. However, they made 10 with the 383 4 barrel Magnum option and those were broke down as 1 three speed, 4 autos, and 5 four speeds. It wouldn't have had the bulge hood - should have flat hood.
Definitely a rare '71 and well worthy of a full resto. Should bring good coin. |

I previously owned a very stock 1970 Barracuda 318 3 speed Coupe with the fixed rear quarter windows. Flat hood as mentioned. Oddly enough, everything to make it a functioning window was installed at the factory except the regulator and window crank. They put a chrome plug in the inner quarter panel trim panel to fill the hole and added a stop on the window tracks to keep the glass from sliding down. I added the regulators and cranks and voila, working windows (bonus of mint glass without any whisker scratches).
Always wondered how much of a true savings was there for the factory to keep a couple oddball parts on hand for installation in a small group of cars instead of the common regulator and window crank? |
