'66 Malibu "Prototype"

If I'm reading this right (and this is a TOUGH description to read), this Malibu was some sort of development vehicle for the '67 A.I.R. system.

Not sure that adds value, but I dig any Ermine White '66 Chevelle....

Nothing that unusual for a 1966 car sold in CA.
DM = 283 Powerglide with A.I.R.

Hardly a "1 of 1" prototype.

I would not have expected the 283 to need an over bore and rebuild at 10,000 miles. Maybe pull the engine to reseal; but internals should have been fine at that mileage.

Car is nice, and well done; although I am really confused by the white inner fenders and lack of black out on the firewall. Maybe it was restored by a Mopar guy. Maybe that is how it was built and I am just a dumba$$. JMHO, but "rare" does not always equate to desirable.

I don't understand why the white engine bay paint unless somehow that was part of the prototype status (B.S.). One of my pet peeves is always seeing the AACA badges on cars that are half right at best.

66 Chevelle...

Nice looking car...sure has a lot of trophies. Not sure about the white engine bay...would be a nice cruiser for a summer day with the a/c on.

Question: Are the screw style clamps correct for the a/c hoses...?? I would have thought the factory would have used something different.

Every time I see this it makes me cringe!:eek2:

Just take the hoses to a shop and get them crimped! Allow a good 1/4” for crimping expansion/extension. Yeesh!:laugh:

Screw clamps were used a lot back in that era, but they had a tab on them for the installer to butt up against the end of the hose to position it in the correct location to pinch the hose on the barbs of the fitting.

This guy is more full of .... than a Christmas goose! :rolleyes2:
One of one prototype?? :bs: K19 smog equipment in CA began with the '66 model year, not '67.
