New '68 Chevelle Supercar?

Has anyone here ever heard of this dealership converting cars?

Aluminum heads!

Had to be a L88 conversion with that compression ratio, aluminum heads and over 500 HP. I wonder what carburetor they used.

Wonder how many were sold and if any survived?

That's so cool. I love that kind of stuff with obscure or at least not well-known dealers offering 427 conversions. There had to be some of those dealers in North or South Carolina who converted '67 Chevelles to 427 power as there was always one or two listed every time I got an old Auto Trader magazine from those areas in the 80's. I wonder if anyone has done any research in this area.

Being that this car was in the "show room" it would appear at least one was built. After I found the ad a few days ago I hit the pavement hard trying to find cars that resold in that area that could be possible candidates. So far I've found a couple of candidates I'll be researching.

If this car originally came from the factory with a 396 (just making an assumption here) and Spence Chevrolet removed the original (numbers matching) engine and installed a "crate" L88 427 (not numbers matching) before selling it to the public ... how would anyone know or recognize "the car" unless all the factory paperwork from day one was included?

What I mean is, how would the car in the above ad be discernable from any other 396 Chevelle that was sold by Spence where the engine gets blown up, then the owner (not the dealer) installs an L88 crate engine?

There'd have to be some pretty convincing documentation to back anyone's claim that they have that car.

I see a Spence Chevrolet in Thomasville GA.
Close to Florida border.
The same Spence?
Maybe an old staff member could shed some light if the same dealership.

I did more online digging and see a '72 Chevelle 454 stating it sold out of Spence Chevrolet - Daytona Beach Florida.

Exactly what is shown at the bottom of the ad in the top post. 👍
