1968 Motion drag car on the street

This a cool picture and article (written by Joel) about testing the Motion 68 drag car. It mentions a meeting with Zora and shows the Holley gear drive kit. The kit converterted a vac. sec. Holley to a mach. sec. double pumper. I wonder if this set up is legal at the Pure Stock drags?

Joe,

Great picture, I like the daylight under both front tires.

I put one of those gear drive units on my 780 Holley back then. The primaries and secondaries were geared one to one and the accelerator pump squirter extended through two holes you had to drill to feed the secondary side. Didn't do anything for performance but the gas mileage was about half of normal which wasn't great to begin with. I think that a lot of people tried this same thing because I have had to look some to find an original carb that hadn't been drilled. Live and learn.

although not originally intended for the smaller holleys, the gear drive worked very well for the larger cfm 3 barrel units.my nova with 950 holley is equipped with one.its primary design was to cover up the lag at part throttle cruising speed.the three barrels were not designed for this purpose being originally intended for oval racing.
