I was wondering who still runs their car.
What is the best time YOU have driven the car you own to.
Anyone street race?

67 Red Witch Camaro that I am driving across country next week on Power Tour. My best time was 12.50@119mph, starting out in secong gear. As evidenced by the mph, I am not good at managing wheel spin.

Well, let's see...our '69 Yenko Camaro managed 13.20s @ 104+ at the '99 Pure Stock Drags, but was a bit "off the pace" at the '00 Pure Stock drags with only a 13.60s +. BUT, we are hopefully going to soon start an engine rebuild, which will HOPEFULLY put the car in the 12s. If I can just find a block...

I hope we can do some "shakedown" runs at the Supercar Reunion this fall at Gateway Intl. Raceway in our Camaro, kind of get the bugs worked out before Michigan. Also, hopefully the Nova will be together and see it's share of track time as well!

Best time by Neal Robbins and his '70 Yenko Nova is 13.45 @ 105.5. This was at his home track, 8:30 in the evening, temp = 72 degrees, and low humidity. This is probably the best case scenario for an LT1 Nova, wheelspin was obviously a problem.

Does Neal's car have any serious engine mods or is he running stock? I have a friend who refuses to believe that a "little Nova" could run a 13.5 et +/-.

I can vouch for those "little Novas" running those times, as the few Deuces I have seen seem to move with great EASE! Surprisingly quick for a small block.

Pete's Nova has ran some REALLY quick times, as I am hoping he will chime in here some time soon. Seems like I remember him running 12s on drag radials... https://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Those Nova's are "the little car that could".
Best time for my COPO LT-1 Nova on 25 year old poly's and a unrestored car is 13.22 @ 105. The car motor is totally stock and will go through a certified stock process at the pure stock drags in 2002. That is with original springs front and rear with 50/50 shocks all the way around. I hope to be the first certified stock smallbock in the 12's. Admittedly I'll need the perfect day with a tailwind. The only difference with the Canadian COPO's from the Yenko's is that both Canadian cars were ordered by Dave Mathers with M20's. That makes all the difference.
My yellow COPO Chevelle on poly's has run a 12.89 @ 111. My orange COPO Camaro has run a best of 12.87 @ 108, and my white COPO Camaro has run a best of 12.69 @ 109. All these times are on F70-14 polyglas tires and will pass cerified stock in there sleep. The difference in times on the two Camaro's is due to orange car has 4:10's and the white car has 4:56 in it. White car motor dyno's out at 420 horse in stock form as seen in MCR. Just curious... Do most of you think I'm nuts for racing these cars? I was the only one for years. Glad to see the Clary's joining ranks. I'm not looking for compliments and I can take the critism, Im just curious as to how people feel on this. Pete, I think it's great to see you running your cars to show what they were really built for in the first place. I can also see the argument that it would be too risky to run the original motor in such a car due to its value. I will have to make that decision with my crossram JL8 car next year. Should I build a backup motor to keep the original block safe and secure? I've got a lot invested so I may have to run another motor to protect my investment. But I will be driving the car when it's done.

Neal's car is stock, with the changes allowed by the pure stock drags - dual exhaust with two mufflers rather than one crossflow, jetting and timing. The only advantage that Neal might have is that his car came with 4.56 gears instead of 4.10's. (This is not uncommon, there are three Yenko Novas without 4.10's). I said, 'might' have an advantage, because those gears hurt his 60 foot times so much that Pete Simpson's COPO Nova with 4.10's beat him every time. Neal was faster than Pete through each successive timing increment, but the steep gears put him too far behind during the first 60'.

I don't know the best time that Pete's COPO Nova has run, but I believe it is better than 13.45, but with a little less mph.

Low 13s? Small block? A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!! And these LT-1/LS-1 guys in their late model F-bodies think they own the only killer small blocks! They wish!

This thread is really helping my argument for making a '70 Deuce the next car in our stable...Dad...are you reading this?
