??PENSKE CAR??? Anyone know about this car
Penske Z-28 1970/half Tim Hadfield 8:57 pm friday may 3, 2002
Are you interested in a tuff Camaro history question? I'll assume you are and ask away. One of my suppliers, a native Hawaiian, now living here in the Pacific N.W. has a 1970\half Z-28 with the 360hp 350,Hurst shifter and one piece front bumper. He is the original owner, buying it special order as 1of 249 Penske built models. He is not a 'car guy' and has let it sit in his garage, with 70k orig.for more than ten years because he is tired of people (even proported camaro specialists) calling him a liar when they look under the hood and claim he has altered it. He swears it is as he purchased it! There were no special papers given to him at the time of purchase. Can you hook us up with info that might verify its authenticity? I have tried to find a way to reach Penske himself, but have been unable to so far. Thanks for any help! Tim H Dynoauthority.com Where we do 160mph standing still! PS- I have not yet seen this car myself, but have no reason to doubt his story. |

Re: ??PENSKE CAR??? Anyone know about this car
Penske and Mark Donahue switched to AMC Javelin for the 1970 Trans Am race season after a very successful 69 season with Camaros. Dosen't mean he didn't sell a special edition 70 Camaro but I have not heard of one.

Didn't Penske have a Chevy dealership in PA? I seem to remember King of Prussia.

Re: ??PENSKE CAR??? Anyone know about this car
I am from Newtown Square PA, this is where they worked on and race prepared the Grandsport Corvette and Transam cars 1965 to aprox 1972. Penske had two shops ( buidings are still their), the first shop was on the south east corner of Rt 252 and Rt 3, the second was on Rt 252 2 block north of Rt 3 (now Don Kelley's Automotive). I believe in 1973 they moved to Reading PA. In 1969 Penske Chev was in Ardmore, PA referred to as the "mainline". At some point they moved to King of Prussia, probably late 70's.
