Finding a car you once owned.

I know that this subject has probably already been covered in the past but maby someone has already been through it.

I am trying to track down a hot rod 1955 Chevy that my father owned in 1968&1969. He has nothing with the vin # on it that he can find. Is their any way possiable to find out the vin# of a car a particular person owned? Could it be done by the persons name, s.s.#, D.L.#, through the DMV?

Any help or suggestions would be helpful since I know this is a long shot......

Frank,
If the Car was local to the Chicago area cruise spots or raced locally you can try to post info about it as there are quite a few longtime hot rodders lurking here in cyberspace.

I recently sold a 210 V8 sedan that was still on a title from 1969.

Re: Finding a car you once owned.

My father grew up on the West Side of Chicago, 26th st(The Little Village) He bought the car from a guy who was from Alabama that brought the car with him. It was a 150 post 2 door. He bought the car for $200 and over the next 2 years put $2500 into it.(in 1968 that could have bought you a new car!) It was light blue with a hi-po 283 with solids and a cam, 4 speed, big gear, buckets, sport steering wheel, sun tach, ladder bars, A.R. torque thrusts, and a bubble hood. The car resembeled the American Grafitti 55. I have all the old polaroids of the car all done up from 68&69. He ended up trading the car to a local guy for a 1963 Impala SS and $400 dollars after he spun a bearing and "lunched the mill"

Since my father is police officer could that help him obtain the info?
