69 nova ss L78
Can anyone tell me approximately how many L-78 novas
(SS facory 4 spd-12 bolt posi,M-20, bench seat, pwr steer. disc brk)were built. I know the Camaro #s and would think the nova's would be less. I'm taking it to an auction next weekend and am trying to set a value. it has 49,000 original miles. Been repainted triple white pearl w/translucient fucia in the paint and fucia flames on the front.originally burgundy maroon. I would have never repainted it myself. I don't know why the 2nd owner did? I am the 3rd owner. It's a willow run, MI car.I have the original wheels w/dog dish hubs. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks....mike |
Re: 69 nova ss L78
I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but I think there was approx. 600 in '68, 4,900 in '69 and 4,400 in '70. Not sure how many of these were 4speeds vs. a/t's. Disc brakes were required on SHP cars in '69 and '70. All were 12 bolts, but not necessarily posi's, although most were. Bench seats were standard, as were the steel wheels and dogcaps, the M20 was the standard 4speed trans with the M21 the optional - not sure if any M22's were made/documented.
Does the car have paperwork or the original engine with the application suffix stamped on it? Unlike the Camaros, the Novas do not contain engine specifics on the trim tag. Definitely would have been better in Maroon!! |

Marlin
Thank you for the info. Is there some where on this site I can find the meaning of the "post icons"? Not real good at this internet stuff. To answer your questions; When I bought the car I thought it was a 396. Later a friend of mine ran the casting #s to find that it is in fact a strong 73 454. I think I could find out where the 396 is. I believe it has a Borg Warner "T" something close ratio 4 sp. I haven't checked everything but I'm sure everything else is original.I did recently pull the back seat out and found the build sheet. I've never seen one before. I found it in the upper right corner of the "back" of the back seat. Came out in about 10 pieces. It was stuffed in with the padding. A bit discolored but it's the real deal. That's when I knew it was a true L78.took me 45 minutes to tape it together.WOW!! did I get excited. To find the birth certificate of a 33 yr old car. Needless to say, I've looked in all the other cars since and didn't find it. Any idea on value?I could send a few pics. It is pretty. No rust anywhere. |
