Real Copo ??
I have a 69 camaro that i was told was a real copo. It is garnet red, has the BE rearend, Big Block heater housing, curved neck radiator and a 512 cast iron block. The tag reads X11, and the vin # is 6691xx. Is there anyway to tell from the vin number? I have tried to hire a detective agency to run the vin back to the certificate of origin and the dealer who originaly sold the car along with the first owner's etc... I was disappointed to learn that i couldn't find anything out past 7-years. Any help would be appreciated. I'm fully willing to pay for this information thru NCIB, etc....

Re: Real Copo ??
By the lack of response you've probably concluded the obvious. Despite all the patter about body tags it is not possible to positively ID a non-Yenko L72 car by VIN or body tag data. The only way to know for sure is to have original factory documentation such as window sticker, protect-o-plate, invoice etc.
Body tag data (NOR #) can strongly suggest a COPO. Many dealers, Yenko included, ordered L72 cars in groups resulting in sequential numbers. For example the first batch of Yenkos have body numbers in the range 202450-202500 or so. This is also true of most Gibb ZL1s but there is an exception there, one number being far out of sequence. But some dealers only ordered one or a few COPOs so there really isn't any sequence to work with. If your car was sold new in Canada the Zone Office there can provide original build info. Chevy is supposed to be working on a release of all Camaro information; keep your fingers crossed. In the meantime keep looking for previous owners. Took us 15 years. |
Re: Real Copo ??
Post or send me the VIN and tag #'s and any drivetrain #'s and we'll see if I can help.
BTW, you don't have an email listed. |
