Re: 70 duce strips

Hi Dennis;
There is no science or measurements to installing Yenko stripes on a car, just try to get them spaced equally with the 'spine' of the trunk lid. Remember, Don had local kids installing these stripes after school in the various local garages, so none of them were perfect. All you really need is a dose of patience.

Tell us about the car you are striping. Is it from Tamson chev.? Is it Jerry's red car, or James/William's red car?

Dennis;
It's best not to use those 30 year stripes, they won't stick. I'm assuming you will be using a set of stripes from J&W? They are good stripes, hand cut using an NOS set as a pattern, better vinyl too. Just make sure that the YENKO DEUCE is level on the 1/4, the stripe goes just below the door lock and just above the NOVA emblem on the fender. Run the stripe up to the leading edge of the front marker light, roughly.

I've got a set of old stripes too (minus the hood stripes). I guess they make nice conversion pieces.

Re: 70 duce strips

Marlin, every original striped deuce I have seen has the stripe going down a 1/2 inch into the nova emblem on the front fender. My old orange deuce, Kens yellow, and my old blue deuce were all the same. All were/are original unrestored cars. Can't imagine why they would do it that way because they had to cut around the nova emblem. It does make a difference on the angle. Maybe these cars are the same because they were done at hurst by adults?

Re: 70 duce strips

Dave,
Half an inch?? On both sides? I have seen where they cut the stripe on some cars to go through the Nova emblem, but most original cars I have seen have the stripe barely above the NOVA emblem. I have seen them go above the emblem on one side, and through the emblem on the other. No two cars will be the same.

We watched a guy crawling around the floor taking exact stripe measurements from a Yenko Camaro one year at the reunion. Why? I thought he was over doing it, especially since he was building a clone car. These cars didn't get striped very consistently back in the day, so I wouldn't get too crazy with the measurements.

Re: 70 duce strips

How many of the 25 red deuces are accounted for Marlin? Both sides stripes do run through the top of the nova on my yellow deuce, but its a pain to do it that way. We did it on the red little Rock deuce, and Jon Cronkletons. Takes time and lots of patience. Jd, use a spray bottle with soapy water and keep em wet.Marlin, does J&W get the hood stripes right,or are they wrong too? Schonye

S;
There were 35 red deuces, approx. 20-21 are accounted for. J&W's stripes are good, they are hand cut and have the correct 'sheen' to the vinyl. I have seen more stripes above the NOVA emblem than through it, but you may be on to something with the Hurst cars.

Dennis, use lots and lots of soapy water, and a good little rubber squeegy!
