Stamped engine numbers?
Two sets of stamped numbers on the right front block pad in front of the head. Small block Chevy:
1st # VO424HT 2nd # 8F20388 Sorry, I couldn't see the block casting # or date code. Can anyone decode these? Thanks for all help. |
Re: Stamped engine numbers?
I found the HT to be either a 327/350 hp Corvette engine or a 350/255hp full size engine. I think the VIN indicates a full size chevy, not Corvette.

Re: Stamped engine numbers?
Thanks for your help Jeff. I also found that the HT code appeared on 65-67 'Vettes' as a 327/350 RPO L79.
The motor is in a 56 Chevy which is for sale. It does have a duel snorkle chrome air cleaner which is vintage. Can anyone else chime in on this one? |
Re: Stamped engine numbers?
1968 Big Chevy Passenger car if it were a Vette it would be 8Sxxxxxx S standing for the St Louis Plant

Re: Stamped engine numbers?
Full size chevs were also built at St Louis. The "F" in the VIN derivative means Flint Assy Plant which built Full size chevys and confirms this block is out of a full size chev.

Re: Stamped engine numbers?
Also full size chevy used a Q-jet carb were the vette L-79
used a holley carb |
Re: Stamped engine numbers?
Gents,
Thanks for your replys. The motor does have a casting # 3795397 alumium intake manifold which seems to be a 62 Vette with a Rochester 4-BBl carb. I realize parts can be changed thru the years. Trying to determine if this motor is a 'diamond in the ruff' and worth saving. |
