1970 Chevelle LS6 Registry forming...

I know that some might find this thread a bit like beating a dead horse....but....

The topic again came up in discussion and I (along with others) feel that it is long overdue. I'm proposing that a registry be started on the 1970 LS6. My goal is to start a registry that would be of benefit to not only current owners but also thje guys that are the true historians in this hobby. For anyone famailar with the "COPO Connection," I would like something along the same lines.

I've heard all of the arguments in the past...

1)"I don't want my VIN or buildsheet given out."
This is not really a good argument as anyone at a show, cruise, hell even a TC event can write down a VIN.

2) "It will help the cloners." Well guess what guys.. they already know that the LS6 was an engine option...so why not try to put our collective heads together and really dig deep into the cars and see what made them different. I am proposing that the database be maintained NOT for public record or viewing, but for "US" (the actual LS6 owners and historians (ala Rick Peters, Rick Nelson, Chris White, etc.))

There are other arguments but these are the 2 biggest..

I am proposing that we pull all of our collective information together (buildsheets, correspondence, etc.) I would like feedback on this and am looking forward to discussion on how it should be set up. I don't profess anything and this needs to be a collective idea to make it work.

Respectfully,

Greg Carlson

This is the original post from TC..We have had quite a few owners step up and publically support the idea. I'd love to get more owners/cars involved. The thread on TC is in both the "Tag Team" and "Chevelle Tech," sections. If you guys own them (I know some do..) would love to have your input.
I'll post one of the other post that has the info where to send the stuff..This is a long overdue project, one that will benefit not only LS6 owners, but all Chevelle owners with some of the info that will be learned. Let's support it...

Re: 1970 Chevelle LS6 Registry forming...

Hi all...

It sounds like we are well on our way to starting a registry. I need you guys to begin compiling any pertinent data on your cars. The following should be a minimum:

1) complete VIN
2) complete cowl tag data
3) any factory docs (a good readable copy of a buildsheet if you have one, POP, invoices, anything from the dealership)..if no factory docs then options list
4)list of the BIG 3 (engine, trans, rear) codes and dates
5)a list of major parts that are correct, along with date codes
6)current disposition of car (ie: unrestored, frame on/off, etc.)
7)any other interesting details about the car (ex-race car, ownership history, etc)

I am going to start by putting the data onto a spread sheet program. I will also probably keep a separate file on each car, so if you want to send a pic or two that is cool as well..My hope is that we can put the data to good use and learn some stuff in the process.

I would also appreciate for you guys that "collect" buildsheets to try to send what you have. I know some people send sheets and say don't distribute them, so I understand that. However if you can try to get in touch with the individual and ask if it is okay that would give us more cars to "register."

Please send any info you have to :

I hope we can all work on this and make this a very enjoyable experience. If anyone has questions or ideas feel free to ask.

Thank you,

Greg
