reynolds,
It does have that 60's sound and the engine package seems like a nice performer, but I'm sorry, I just can't get past the looks of the car [especially a GTO comeback]---same cookie cutter look with different emblems.

Joe I agree I can not believe that they cant do something with the way the tail pipes come out I was told that because of the gas tank they had to put the pipes together I just wish they didnít make look like a Chevy cavalier

I LOVE that car. I wish they just would have brought the Monaro as-is here, but I would buy one. I just want one - is anyone familiar with that phrase from the Holden Website?

I have to agree the car looks kinda bland, cross between a grand am & a cavalier. It sound great though. I thought the "new" way to do exhaust was to blend the two sides of exhaust with a crossover?
Oh yeah, ALL HAIL REAR WHEEL DRIVE!!!

Re: GTO sounds

The brand manager for the GTO made a presentation at the Pontiac Oakland national show, and, they exhaust "note" was fine tuned by NOT using a crossover. They worked very hard to get the right combination of "burble" and "rumble" by having slightly different tones coming from the two sides. They used ,IF I remember correctly, the '71 455HO as their standard to shoot for. The feeling was that was the ultimate GTO exhaust sound.

The overwhelming sentiment was "where's the GTO scoops?? The answer was they will be available shortly in the aftermarket, and, probably standard in 2005. They're going to sell all the 2004s anyway, so, they need something to give people a reason to buy 2005s, right?

Re: GTO sounds

The very fact that they use a "brand manager" is part of the whole problem here. "Brand managers" help market laundry detergent, not cars. Thus far, I'd have to say I am impressed by the power and sound of the car, but the styling is really cheesy. It shouldn't look ANYTHING like a Grand Am...that's what Pontiac should be distancing themselves from, not embracing. GM's too focused on the trucks in my opinion.

Seems like a fun car. I just wish they wouldn't call it a GTO.

Re: GTO sounds

I think they're pricing themselves out of the running...

Why drop $35k on what's basically a "nameplate" (GTO) that only runs mid 14s when you could walk across the street to the F@rd dealer and spend the same $35k and go mid-12s? Same seating, same retro name, but the GTO will get eaten alive. Heck, the Neons will be able to take the GTO!!

IMO, they did a piss poor job of replacing the F-bodys...

I agree. I'd buy an '03 Cobra before I'd buy a new GTO. Dan
