02 ZL1 Driveline Components
Are the trans, driveshaft, and/or rear axle in the 02 ZL1 cars beefed up in any way from the standard Camaro Z28 items?

Re: 02 ZL1 Driveline Components
They really do not need any beefing up. Larry Christenson, owner of 2002 ZL1 #57, has made over 50 passes down the 1/4 mile track running with ET slicks and running consistant mid 11's, with a best time of 11.35 at 128 mph . . . all with a stock clutch, pressure plate, transmission, drive shaft, rear end axles, rear end differential, and wheel studs. I guess the GM guys were right when they said we would be OK with all the stock stuff.
BUT, if people want to drop the clutch at 5000 or 6000 RPM's, then they will probably brake something. Also, these cars have factory warranties on factory parts not modified by GMMG. |
