Just Bought This 70 Eliminator on Ebay
Hi,
I just bought this 70 Eliminator on ebay. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif 70 Eliminator on Ebay The owner is supposed to send me over documentation proving that is an Eliminator (it does have the Q code, but that can just be a 428 eqip. Cougar I believe). https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif So, you guys have any Cougar expertise that you would like to share? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif I have been to the classic couger network page (http://www.theclassiccougarnetwork.com/elim/) and read up on them somewhat and emailed their Guru. I will be selling one of the projects (nope, not the 69 Camaro LM1 or the Formula 400)to make room for this one if anyone is interested. I will be selling a 69 Camaro X-11 (non ss)roller (over $500 in new front end rebuild, ball joints on, big block m-mounts, etc, 12 Bolt rear(large gears) (10 bolt in car)), and a 1967 Vette 427 Engine. This is a red/red car. You can go to the site below for more specs on this car, I was going to list it on ebay while I restored the LM1, but have been working on some ever since (you may notice that at that time I had not done the ball joints yet). I did list it briefly on camaros.net. 69 Camaro For Sale Thanks for any information you may wish to share! Rich https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |

Nope, the car as my aviatr is *NOT* the car in this ad. Sorry for any confusion. That is the LM1 that I am restoring. Please visit the link in the ad for several pics of the car! Rich |
Re: Just Bought This 70 Eliminator on Ebay
-----If that Corvette block is a 351 casting you may want to break that out of the Camaro package and put that on E-bay seperatly. Right now 67 427s are at an all time high if in good buildable condition. Take the money and package a less valuable big-block with your Camaro. Just a suggestion for what its worth!.......Bill S

Re: Just Bought This 70 Eliminator on Ebay
Hi Bill, the numbers on the block are TO309IL, which I believe codes out right for a 67 Vette. The guy I bought it from had it in a 66 Impala running 13's. It came out of his vette when he put in a zz motor (I shoudl probably hang on to it, I am sure that he will be wanting to buy it back one day!). Thanks for the advice, I may just do that.

Re: Just Bought This 70 Eliminator on Ebay
You'll want to get the Marti report for the car. It will show whether it's an Eliminator or not (personally, I like the regular CJs better), whether it's a Ram Air car or not, and how many were produced with each option, among other things.

Re: Just Bought This 70 Eliminator on Ebay
Hi 442w30, Great News! Frank Bowers with the eliminator registry responded to an email by me today and verified the car.
Here is a part of the response: (open quote) "To put your mind at ease, yes, this is a real Eliminator. Several of us "cat fanciers" have known about this car for several years now, but I guess we were all working on other projects and failed to take advantage of a bargin." (close quote) Additionally, it looks like the build sheet is there and legible. (Heck and Dana Man was not even involved) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif 442, why do you like the non-eliminator CJ's better? I guess it is sort of like the yenko/copo thing? The yenko's came with the stripes and I have seen some with optioned interiors, but usually see CoPo's stripped down? Or is there another reason? Either way, these cougars have to be the best bargain around, at least compared to other supercar's and Stangs. Heck, even the 428 Mach 1's are bringing 35k these days! Another piece of interesting information I came across on the cougar sites. Apparently unlike Don Yenko and other chevy dealers, who were involved in the circuit, the special (67-68) "dan gurney" cougars were just advertising. In his words, he said that he just posed with the cars for promotional pics. It goes on to say that actually Carrol Shelby was involved with the Cougar 428CJ's more than Gurney ever was with the "Gurney Specials". Thanks, Rich |

Neat car..congrats...A friend restored the Super Cat Dyno Don Cougar....you may have to search a little harder for Cougar parts.

Re: Just Bought This 70 Eliminator on Ebay
Like someone mentioned above get the Marti report! They are as accurate as can be and having your cars build sheet would just be gravy. I had a 69 Mach 1 Mustang a year ago and got what is known as a Lois Emiger report which is the actual invoice from your car that has been at Ford since 1969. If we could only get this stuff on our Chevys.......

Re: Just Bought This 70 Eliminator on Ebay
Eliminator? Wow, you don't see those everyday! It has been years since I have seen one drive down a road. The last one was painted yellow if memory serves me right. Anyway, congrats! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Just Bought This 70 Eliminator on Ebay
69LM1, I think the reason why I prefer the regular ones is because they tend to be ignored and I've seen less of them. In fact, I bet they made less CJs than Eliminator CJs. Blame the magazines for this, as chances are they'll feature an Eliminator before any other Cougar.
I am not sure if I've seen one in Competition Green before, though. All of them seem to be in Orange, Gold, or Blue. Go to www.martiauto.com to see what the report is. You'll be glad you did. |
