69 Camaro Convertible canisters

A friend of mine has a 69 Camaro Convertible Pace car which has a canister on each side of the truck near the fender well. Nothing is hooked to either can, they are mounted upright, about 5" dia x 8" tall. Does anyone know what these would be for, thanks Ken

Thats option N38-Factory Nitrous. j/k... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Actually all convertibles had these, often referred to as "cocktail shakers", they were basically a liquid filled can installed in each rear 1/4 panel for ballast.

In addition to the two in the trunk, there should one in each front fender behind the headlight.

Inside each canister is a 25 pound weight that is spring loaded and surrounded in automatic transmission fluid. It acts as a dampener for body vibrations...and to slow the car down due to the 100 extra pounds of weight. -NJSteve
