Driveshaft stripes - sprayed on or brushed?

Can anyone verify if the driveshaft stripes found on late 60's GM vehicles were sprayed-on or applied with a brush while the shaft was spinning? THNX!

I believe it was a brush as the shaft was turning.

From the few I have seen, they did not appear to be brushed on.

They should have been brushed on. I would be interested in pictures of original stipes anyone has found on Novas.

When I stripped down my driveshaft to bare metal you could see the 3 paint brush marks etched in the metal next to one another, each mark about 1/2/-3/4 inch wide ( free hand)---The ends of the marks meet pretty even, so I'd guess the shaft was being turned, while the brush was pressed against it.--

Gents, in all do respect.........

Where in the assembly process did the shaft get painted 'free hand' while it was spinning? What was it spinning in or on?

I agree.
The soul purpose of the striped shaft, was so the line worker could easily identify it from the bin, during assembly, then apply it to the Vehicle being built.
I still believe spraying the stripes onto the shaft was done in a few plants by some.

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif---I'm not saying the driveshaft was turning At a certain RPM--I'M just saying the brush/swab marks on my driveshaft looked as if the brush or swab was pressed against the driveshaft as the driveshaft was turned. The brush marks themselves looked like someone stuck his finger in a can of paint and went around the shaft.---Just an observation.
